Welcome to the British Association of Sclerotherapists (BAS) Annual Meeting! Get ready for a day packed with insights into the latest developments in leg ulcer treatment, successful sclerotherapy practice, and important regulatory updates.

Morning Session: Leg Ulcers & BAS Standards

  • 9:30 AM: Welcome by Dr. Martyn King, Chair of the BAS.


Leg Ulcers: Latest Developments (Chaired by Dr. Martyn King)

  • 9:30 AM: "What Causes Leg Ulcers?" - Mr. Michael Wall, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, will break down the underlying reasons for leg ulcers.

  • 9:45 AM: "Venous Ulceration – A Research Project" - Ms. Lily Benton RGN, Research Nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital, will share insights from her research.

  • 10:00 AM: "How I Approach a Leg Ulcer" - Mr. Jeremy Crane, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, will discuss his practical approach to managing leg ulcers.


BAS Curriculum & Standards

  • 10:20 AM: "Trainers – Are You Ticking All the Boxes?" - Dr. Martyn King and Miss Catharine McGuinness, Consultant Surgeon, will discuss compliance with BAS training standards.

Mid-Morning Session: Marketing & Sclerosants

Marketing and Managing a Successful Sclerotherapy Practice (Chaired by Mr. Philip Coleridge Smith)

  • 11:10 AM: "Connect, Attract, Profit: The Machine Blueprint for Clinic Success" - Dr. Haroun Gajraj, Phlebologist, will reveal strategies for clinic growth.

  • 11:35 AM: "Sclerosants: Basic Science and Reducing Adverse Events" - Dr. Richard Oliver, Head of Technical and Clinical at STD Pharmaceutical Products, will cover the science of sclerosants and how to minimize complications.

  • 11:50 AM - 12:10 PM: "Regulation of Cosmetic Treatments – How Will It Affect You?" - Dr. Martyn King will discuss the impact of new regulations on your practice.

Case Presentations from BAS Members – What Would You Have Done? (Chaired by Dr. Martyn King)

  • 12:10 PM:

  • Case 1: Dr. Stephen Tristram presents "Pregnant Legs."

  • Case 2: Mr. Zola Mzimba discusses "When You’re Lost All Roads Lead to Foam."

  • Case 3: Mr. Philip Coleridge Smith shares "An Unusual Skin Rash After Sclerotherapy" and "Failed Thread Vein Treatment."

  • 12:55 PM - 1:55 PM (Concurrent Session): Basic Life Support Training with Steve Swift (Thames Rooms). This session has restricted numbers and requires separate registration.


Afternoon Session: Live Demonstrations & Modern Phlebology

Live Demonstrations (Plenary session with video coverage in main auditorium, chaired by Mr. Zola Mzimba & Mr. Alastair Lewis)

  • 2:00 PM: Foam Sclerotherapy demonstration by Philip Coleridge Smith.

  • 2:20 PM - 3:10 PM: Microsclerotherapy demonstration by Catharine McGuinness & Kate England.


  • 3:10 PM - 3:30 PM: Afternoon Refreshments


Modern Phlebology Practice (Chaired by Mr. Philip Coleridge Smith)

  • 3:30 PM: "Aspects of Consent and Medicolegal Matters" - Mr. Greg Fulton, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, will cover crucial legal considerations.

  • 3:50 PM: "Average Sclerotherapy and Excellent Sclerotherapy: The Difference" - Mr. Philip Coleridge Smith, President BAS, will highlight the key elements of outstanding treatment.

  • 4:10 PM: "Managing the Patient Experience – Consent, Pre-treatment Info, Post-treatment Procedure" - Mr. Alastair Lewis, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, will share tips on enhancing patient care.
